Thank you

Thank you

After a very intimidating experience at school I hadn’t sung for years, except in the car where no one could hear me.  But I always loved the idea of singing in a choir, so when I saw a poster for Rising Voices, I decided to pluck up courage and go along, resolving that, if there was an audition, I would be out the door.  I needn’t have worried – I was made to feel welcome by the 3 lovely ladies who talked to me on the way in, and was greeted by a sea of friendly faces from the moment I got there.  And there was no audition.

I have now been coming along to choir for nearly 3 years and it is such a joy.   It is fun and I have learnt some breathing and voice control techniques along the way and am confident enough that I know I can sing in tune and even found myself leading a group of Brownies in practice for their Christmas concert last month.  That would not have happened 3 years ago – no way! We say we don’t take ourselves seriously and it’s mostly for fun but it is such an uplifting feeling when, as a choir we get it right and all the voices work together in harmony.   Maybe we should take ourselves just a little more seriously sometimes because we can be better than we think we are sometimes…  Our choir really is greater than the sum of its parts and I feel proud and lucky to be part of it.

Thank you to all those who were involved in setting up our wonderful choir, who could never have envisaged that it would be what it is today, a real choir family.  And thank you to those who continue to give up their time to ensure the running of the choir.  I am quite sure there is a lot going on behind the scenes.  It is not unappreciated.

Kind regards
Hazel Hart
